NFC Algorithms Injections Knitted on woole and fibers
There exist what we call images of things,
which, so to speak, detached from the surface of objects,
fly here and there in the air...
Thus, I say that likenesses
or thin silhouettes are emitted
from the surface of things
which we might
as well call films or barks.
Lucretius
The soul is what has folds
and is full of folds.
Gilles Deleuze
A meeting of two parallel researches, one that of Kenzo which stems from the intersections of the tips of his crochet hooks creating an appearance of organicity in the lines and surfaces of his creations. The same organicity sought in the codes and algorithms of Mantelli. Both immersed in the folds where a depth deserving of contact hides. The meeting of these two worlds, seemingly so distant, is not by chance. The history of algorithms is intimately connected with that of textiles. The ancestors of modern computers are precisely the looms that inspired Charles Babbage when looking at the inventions of Jacquard. Kenzo's garments thus become explorable in another dimension, thanks to algorithms injected among the folds and yarns. The algorithms, the numbers thus become tangible and serve as a haptic interface to explore the surface, a manifestation of an unknown depth.
